McLaren is plotting an even faster, lighter and more powerful version of the recently revealed 600LT that's inspired by the British supercar-maker's participation in the GT4 race series.
Speaking to motoring.com.au at an early look at 600LT in a top-secret location in London last month, McLaren chief engineer Paul Burnham admitted that he's lobbying hard for an even faster Sport Series model.
"It's amazing how useable the 600LT is on the road. Sure, it's a little louder but it still rides well, which got us thinking we should make an even faster version,” said Burnham.
According to the McLaren engineer, the direct inspiration is the 570S GT4 race car, but without the FIA restrictor that limits power to 419kW.
Featuring a huge, high-level adjustable wing, large bonnet nostrils and a flat floor, the wide-body GT4 racer comes with adjustable dampers and coilover springs that are suited for racing but can be adapted for road use.
Set to feature a full carbon-fibre body, the GT4 is likely to weigh in at considerably less than 1200kg.
Combined with a healthy power boost that could see total power of the 600LT raised from 440kW to almost 500kW, the GT4 could boast hypercar levels of performance.
"We want it to happen and I'm lobbying hard for it,” Burnham told us.
