MINI has announced the arrival of its quickest models to date, confirming both will land in Aussie showrooms by the end of the year.
The fettled Clubman JCW and Countryman JCW both feature the work of MINI’s storied John Cooper Works (JCW) division, powered by the same 225kW/450Nm engine found in BMW’s X2 M35i.
An additional 55kW of power (compared to outgoing JCW models) is afforded thanks to refreshed engine internals and a new torque-optimised, shift-by-wire Steptronic sports transmission, which also features launch control.
Priced from $62,900 before on-road costs, the JCW Clubman’s launch from zero to 100km/h takes just 4.9 seconds thanks to its 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine.
Paired to an eight-speed automatic, power is sent through MINI’s ALL4 all-wheel drive system, while a mechanical limited slip differential is said to provide more front end grip and less torque steer.
MINI has also shared the same powertrain with its JCW Countryman, which covers the sprint to triple digits in 5.1 seconds and is priced slightly higher at $65,900 (plus ORCs).
Both models are fitted with extra equipment such as bigger brakes (360mm discs up front and 330mm at the rear), roof rails, LED headlights and LED Union Jack-themed tail lights.
The high performance MINIs have also had ride height reductions of about 10mm and wear 19-inch light alloy two-tone wheels at each corner, while Countryman models gain adaptive suspension and Clubmans get sports suspension.
Inside the cabin, both variants feature heated leather cross punch sports seats in carbon black, a head-up display, 8.8-inch infotainment display with navigation and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
Those looking to save $5k can opt for a cheaper version of MINI’s JCW Clubman. The ‘Pure’ variant is still powered by the same 2.0-litre turbo donk, but gets smaller 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive suspension, sports seats and a bunch of blacked-out exterior elements.
MINI has also updated its Cooper S Clubman, adding the aforementioned 8.8-inch display with sat-nav, a piano black interior, black roof rails and LED headlights, tail lights and fog lights, along with a price-tag of $45,900 (plus ORCs).
The Cooper S Clubman and Cooper S Countryman also get an updated seven-speed Steptronic sports dual-clutch transmission, replacing the conventional eight-speed unit in previous models. Updated models also receive a newly designed gear selector.
All models are covered by MINI’s three-year unlimited kilometre warranty.
