Commercial Radio Australia has announced a new version of RadioApp that's available for use in conjunction with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The app, which has been downloaded over 140,000 times since its release in November, provides a means to stream more than 250 radio stations through the either of the two dominant industry-standard smartphone control software packages developed for automotive infotainment applications.
In essence, RadioApp allows the user to hear a favourite radio station, even though that station may be out of range by normal broadcast. The app also displays a list of nearby radio stations, according to the vehicle's location at the time.
"Through RadioApp, listeners can easily discover local stations while travelling, access their favourites list, and control the app safely through their connected car dashboard," says Joan Warner, Commercial Radio Australia CEO.
"Consumers today expect freedom and connectivity and we want to make sure they can listen to their favourite local radio stations however they want and wherever they are."
In addition to commercial stations, RadioApp also supports ABC, SBS and DAB+ (digital) stations. The app even features integrated alarm and sleep timer functions for the user to fall asleep or wake up to the tunes played by a chosen station.
"Our aim is to make RadioApp the ultimate go-to for streaming live local radio," Ms Warner said.
"Now users will be able to take RadioApp on the road, with a smooth transition from the phone to the car dashboard."
The app can be downloaded from a dedicated website www.radioapp.com.au at no cost to the user.
