Ford Oz releases Mustang performance parts

No supercharger, but factory-backed Performance Packs are now available for Australia’s top-selling sports car

It might have pulled the plug on an official dealer-fitted 500kW supercharger kit for the Mustang, but Ford Australia has today released a number of ‘Performance Packs’ for the nation’s top-selling sports car.

Not all the factory-backed, fully-warranted Mustang performance parts are chassis-based, with a cat-back 2.5-inch mandrel-bent stainless steel exhaust system with four-inch outlets in both chrome and black now available for the Mustang GT for just under $3600 including fitment and GST.

There’s also a short-throw manual transmission shifter ($805) and coil spring covers for the 5.0-litre Coyote V8-powered GT, priced at $222.

But the big-ticket item is the Track Handling Pack for Fastback (coupe) models, which at $4130 is priced lineball with the Australian-tuned Mustang suspension kit recently released by Prodrive’s Tickford brand, for $3990.

Developed by Ford Performance, the FR3-M9 track pack includes 25mm-lower coil-springs, assembled front struts, upper strut mounts, rear shocks, sway bars, rear toe links and toe-to-knuckle bearings that, according to Ford “give Mustang a more aggressive stance while delivering enhanced driver feedback”.

Also now available through Australian Ford dealerships are lowered springs for Fastback models, priced at $1260.

Ford says all of its official Mustang performance parts meet Australian Design Rules and its own internal durability standards following local testing on a kinematics and compliance (K&C) rig and shock dyno, as well as at racetracks and at Ford’s You Yangs proving ground.

“This is the first time in Mustang’s five-decade history that an Australian consumer can take delivery of this iconic performance car with a full suite of upgrades straight off the showroom floor,” said Ford Australia president and CEO, Graeme Whickman.

“Even better, the benefit of these upgrades not only gives new Mustang buyers a chance to customize their own vehicle, but also extends to existing owners, who can have their local dealer fit any or all of these components to their own taste and desires.”

Ford says its regular three-year/100,000km new-vehicle warranty applies to all parts when fitted at point of sale.

Existing owners who have their Mustang modified at an official Ford dealer will receive a 12-month/20,000km warranty on the factory-approved parts fitted.

Cat-back exhaust chrome (GT) -- $3584
