The seventh-generation Lexus ES sedan has been revealed in full ahead of its public debut at next week’s Beijing motor show.
First seen a week ago in a leaked teaser image, which Lexus then officially released, the new ES is again likely to be based on the Camry – but this time the newly revealed version based on Toyota’s latest TNGA platform.
As such – in addition to the adventurous new exterior design you can see here -- it’s likely to bring substantial gains in refinement, efficiency and performance over the old Lexus ES, which is the top-selling Lexus sedan in North America.
Apart from upgraded four-cylinder hybrid and V6 petrol engines, the 2019 Lexus ES should also bring a host of new safety devices, including automated braking and steering systems.
No information has been released about the new Lexus ES, but it’s safe to assume it will continue in the same role as the current model in Australia, where it’s expected on sale by the end of this year.
Like the outgoing Lexus ES, which is priced from $63,750, it should be positioned between the mid-size Lexus IS sedan (currently priced from $59,340) and large GS sedan (from $75,931).
Of course, the Lexus line-up continues to be headed by the new LS limousine launched here just last week.
Unlike those rear-wheel drive models, however, the new Lexus ES should continue to be front-drive and fleet-friendly, thanks to a relatively large boot and a price-leading hybrid variant.
“The seventh generation ES springs from a re-imagined luxury equation, featuring engaging design, athletic performance and renowned Lexus refinement,” is all Lexus has to say on the matter until April 25.
